Since TWRP allows you to install custom ROMs and kernels, root your device, install various MoDs and many other things on your device, it is very useful for both developers as well as for those people who just want to customize their phone.
So, how can we install TWRP Recovery without root on a device? To know this keep on reading this article. First of all install TWRP you will not have to root your device but you will need to unlock the bootloader loader. So when you unlock the bootloader all your contents are going to be erased.
Different devices have different methods of unlocking the bootloader, so your mileage will vary.
How to Install TWRP Recovery Without Root? (with PC)
Step 1: You will need to install the Android SDK tools first, before installing TWRP. From the section of “command line tools only” which you will find on the Android developers site, from there you can download the package which is matching to your operating system.
Step 2: Once you have downloaded it, extract the command line tools to your desired location.
Step 3: Now you have to download the TWRP images file that correspond to your device. On TWRP’s site you will get a full list of image files.
Step 4: Go to the settings of your phone then to “About” to unlock the developer option from your phone. In “About” you will get the “build number” tap on it for seven times before being granted access to the developer options.
Step 5: Click on the back button and then go to the USB debugging section and then click ok.
Step 6: In the developer options menu look for “enable OEM unlock” and then select the option. The device will make you enter the security code and the state that unlocking the bootloader will disable the device protection feature.
At the beginning of the device startup this will allow you to unlock the boot-loader. Backup all your files Data images and settings that you want to keep because unlocking the bootloader will wipe out your data.
Step 7: Using USB-C or micro USB connect a device to your computer you will get a message when connecting your device to your computer. So, tap on “Always allow” and then tap on the Ok button.
Step 8: Now you have to install the TWRP via the command prompt. You need to launch a command prompt in the folder in which you have extracted or installed your Android SDK tools to and you will also need to place your TWRP image file in the same folder.
Step 9: Type “ADB devices” in the command window. After that press enter to get your device listed.
Step 10: Now type “ADB reboot bootloader” to reboot the device into fastboot or bootloader mode.
Step 11: Next, run “fastboot flash recovery twrp”. Here, you have to make sure that you need to replace the version of TWRP in this line of code, the version which corresponds to a device and need to load onto your device. Lastly run this code “fastboot reboot“. Now you will be able to boot up your device with TWRP custom recovery.
How to install TWRP without a PC?
In this case you will need two androids, the one should be rooted beforehand. This rooted android will take the place of a computer for installing TWRP and this android should have USB OTG support. The other android device should have an unlocked bootloader. You will also need a USB data cable or OTG adapter to connect devices to each other.
Here, we are using an application named Bugjaeger, which you can easily find in play stores.
Step 1: So, after installing the application, download TWRP images file in a device that corresponds to your device.
After downloading, paste it in the internal storage or name it so that it will be easy to use later.
Step 2: Now, boot the device in fastboot mode in which you want to install the TWRP recovery
Step 3: After booting your device, connect both the devices with OTG adapter and USB data cable.
Step 4: After connecting, a pop-up menu of the Bugjaeger application will appear. Click OK.
Step 5: As soon as you will click OK, the Bugjaeger application will get open automatically. On the left side, at the end of the application, you can see the “Thunder icon“. Click on it.
Step 6: Now you will see the blue round button, at the bottom of the screen. After clicking on it. Click on “I Understand”.
Then, the command window will appear just like a PC. Now, you have to type codes.
Step 7: First, check that both your devices are connected or not to each other. To check type code “fastboot devices” and then make it run.
If on your screen a serial number will appear, then your device is connected.
Step 8: Now type code “fastboot flash recovery” and then attach a TWRP image file with single space. You can see the attached icon on top from there you can attach the file.
After attaching it, tap on the play button, now you can see option “performing command”. Once it is completed your TWRP recovery has been installed on your device.
Step9: To Check if it is installed or not, type a command “fastboot boot” and then again attach the TWRP image file with single space. Now click on the play button, after a few seconds your device will automatically get open and get booted in TWRP recovery.
